A profile set to Canada evaluates the driver under the federal rules that apply south of the 60th parallel. The cycle — one of two — is declared on the compliance profile, and it drives both the on-duty ceiling and the length of the rest that resets it.
Limits and clocks
- Driving — 13 hours in a shift.
- On duty — 14 hours in a shift (driving plus other work).
- Driving window — 16 hours from the end of the rest that started the shift. Once it elapses the driver may not drive, even with the 13-hour limit unspent.
- Cycle — 70 hours in 7 days (Cycle 1) or 120 hours in 14 days (Cycle 2), whichever the profile declares. All on-duty time counts.
Cycle 2 adds a checkpoint: after accumulating 70 on-duty hours the driver may not drive until taking 24 continuous hours off duty. A 24-hour rest mid-cycle clears that counter without ending the cycle itself.
Rests and resets
- Daily off duty — 10 hours in total, of which 8 hours must be continuous. That continuous core closes the shift and resets the daily clocks; the remaining 2 hours may be made up of blocks of at least 30 minutes.
- Cycle reset — 36 continuous hours for Cycle 1, 72 for Cycle 2. Because the Cycle 2 reset is longer, a 36-hour break clears Cycle 1 but not Cycle 2.
- 24 continuous hours off duty in every 14 days — a separate clock checks whether such a rest falls inside the rolling window. It only flags once the record actually spans the full 14 days, so a newly added driver doesn't raise a false breach.
- Sleeper-berth split — two sleeper periods, each at least 2 hours and together at least 10, satisfy the daily off-duty requirement. Their time is excluded from the 16-hour window.
Specifics
The platform runs the federal rules for the zone south of the 60th parallel only. The northern variant and provincial differences are prepared in the rule layer, but the zone isn't selectable on the profile yet — if you operate in the north, treat the figures as conservative.
Daily logs and supporting documents are retained for 6 months. The inspection export carries the declared cycle alongside the driver's full activity for the chosen date range.
