A profile set to Australia works differently from every other jurisdiction: instead of a shift and a cycle, it uses rolling windows with a maximum amount of work and a minimum amount of rest, measured continuously against the present moment. Work means driving and other on-duty time together. Which set of limits applies follows from the fatigue management scheme declared on the profile.
Limits and clocks
Rest in the short windows — only continuous blocks of at least 15 minutes count toward the requirement, so a handful of micro-breaks won't replace one proper break:
- 15 minutes of rest in any 5.5 hours.
- 30 minutes of rest in any 8 hours.
- 60 minutes of rest in any 11 hours.
Maximum work in the long windows:
- In a rolling 24 hours — 12 hours under Standard, 14 under BFM, 15.5 under AFM.
- In a rolling 7 days — 72 hours.
- In a rolling 14 days — 144 hours.
Rests and resets
This regime has no reset that zeroes the counters — the window moves with time, so hours drop out of it as they fall outside its span. What it does impose are two continuous-rest requirements:
- 7 continuous hours of rest in every rolling 24 hours (6 hours under AFM).
- 24 continuous hours — the major rest — in every rolling 14 days.
Both clocks only flag once the record spans the full window, so a newly added driver doesn't raise a false breach. The requirement that the major rest contain two night rest breaks isn't enforced yet — the platform checks only its continuous portion of at least 24 hours.
Specifics
An infringement in this jurisdiction is flagged as relevant to the Chain of Responsibility — reflecting that driver fatigue is also the operator's, the scheduler's and the consignor's concern. The flag is stored with the infringement in the register and surfaces through the API and exports; the full model of chain roles and due diligence is still being built.
The BFM and AFM limits are granted at the level of the operator's accreditation. The platform applies documented outer-limit values rather than the parameters of your specific accreditation — compare them against its terms before going live. Two-up operations and the electronic work diary transfer format are also out of scope.
Work diary records and supporting documents are retained for 3 years — the longest of any supported jurisdiction. The inspection export carries the declared scheme alongside the driver's full activity.
